Is Japan Opening Up for Tourists?

After more than two years of travel restrictions, things appear to be easing up and we can start planning travel to Japan once again. Well not quite. In the last week the Japanese Government announced that they would be opening up for tourist travel to Japan once again from the middle of June 2022.

Unfortunately, they are only opening up for a total of 50 tourists!! Yes, you read that correctly just 50 tourists, and these tourists will also have to be part of a government approved tour group with a max of 4 per country, only available to visit approved locations and only from countries that have high vacination rates and that they are vacinated and triple boosted...! Whew

So before you start packing your bags and booking your flights you need to know that this is a kind of dip your toe into the water scenario for Japan. These tours are going to be heaviliy monitored and will not allow you to go anywhere that hasn't been pre approved. Realistically, I think we'll probably see a gradual return to open tourism over the next 12 months or so.

We'll keep an eye on any news that may impact on when we can travel once again and report it here.

So for now, stay safe and healthy and be ready to roll once Japan is open once again.
